Aims

The aim of this laboratory integration module is to allow Master’s students to discover the world of research and gain new skills through a research project. In parallel with the first-semester courses, students discover a new subject, with the motivation to participate in an original work.

The LIU allows all the astrophysical themes treated in the PSL labs to be presented to Master students. At M2 level, the LIU allows students to gain methodological skills. The training through research is intended to provide knowledge, practices and skills that a course cannot provide.

Description of the LIU work

The activity is similar to an internship work (typically 3 months), but is conducted only on a part-time basis (typically three half-days per week at the M2 level). The long duration allows the students to be immersed in the subject and promotes the long-term thinking of research work and of projects.

The activity benefits from being presented in a graduated manner, to allow students to quickly gain independence and to work on their own, without the need for supervision, from one week to the next.

The work of the laboratory integration module can continue with an internship in the second semester, but without any obligation for the supervisor to offer an internship to follow.

Validation

The LIU work is finalized by a report and a defense. The jury is attentive to all elements gained through the module, expressed in terms of knowledge, method, skills, and / or practice.
