To review : Women in astronomy and astrophysics

9 février 2024

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, 2022, Mathilde Mâlin, a doctoral student at the Laboratoire d’études spatiales et d’instrumentation en astrophysique - LESIA, Observatoire de Paris - PSL, was invited to present an online conference : The presence of women in astronomy and astrophysics.

Mathile Mâlin’s presentation is still relevant today, and we invite you to watch it again :

The presence of women in astronomy and astrophysics.

Summary :
Women have always been present in astronomy and astrophysics, yet they are less well known than their male colleagues and less rewarded for their work.
On the occasion of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we’ll be honouring female astronomers and astrophysicists of the last few centuries, talking about their work and discoveries, and the reasons why they are less well known to the general public.
In 2022, less than 30% of researchers are women. What are the obstacles faced by women wishing to pursue a career in science ? What solutions exist to try and achieve greater parity within the community ?
