Isabelle Bualé joined the Observatoire de Paris in 1985 as an assistant instrument operation engineer. She is now in charge of the solar observation service of the Laboratory of Space Studies and Instrumentation in Astrophysics of Observatoire de Paris - PSL. With her team, she ensures the good functioning of a unique instrument : the spectroheliograph, in service at Meudon since 1908.
The spectroheliograph, which operates 365 days a year, ensures the continuity and quality of observations of the Sun, recording in particular its protuberances and the filaments of its chromosphere.
Aware of the social and scientific stakes concerning long-term solar observations - and the need to secure the historical archives -, Isabelle Bualé has set up their complete digitization. Thus, more than 80 000 photographic plates and 130 kilometers of 35 mm films have been digitized in 20 years.
Very involved in communication with the general public and with schoolchildren, she is in charge of the organization of courses for high school students on the Meudon campus of the Observatoire de Paris - PSL.
