Whether you are at school, or a student, or teaching at secondary school or high school, whether you are a science presenter or a science fan, or just curious… Whatever your question, on higher education, you can find all the information you need on the web site of the Paris Observatory... The Paris Observatory, a state institution for the development of science, culture, and scientifically oriented professions, is involved in research, teaching and the dissemination of scientific culture (EPSCP).
To realize its teaching prerogatives, a science section, the Unité de Formation et d’Enseignement (UFE - the Teaching and Training Unit), organizes training sessions at all advanced levels on the Science of the Universe and on Space Engineering.
Astronomy is a global science which leans on many different domains in physics, mathematics and chemistry; an observational science, it integrates advanced research in optics, electronics, mechanics, thermal transfer, project management, etc. Training in instrumentation and measurement, ranging from the detection of light to the data analysis, is an intimate part of the program. Astronomy also involves theory, for which numerical simulation and the creation of models is vital. Our training leads to students whose skills are very much appreciated everywhere.
Within the National LMD framework
- Doctoral School ED127 "Astronomy and Astrophysics in the Ile de France";
- The Masters diploma "Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Engineering" (M1, M2);
- The multidisciplinary diploma within the framework of the Research University PSL (research and advanced training pole "Paris, Sciences et Lettres" of which the Paris Observatory is a founding member).
Within the framework of the establishment
- University diplomas, 2 requiring physical presence, 2 for distance teaching with on-line tutoring;
- Training of school and high school teachers : sponsorship of classes, institutional (PAF) and individual workshops, training in observational techniques, evenings devoted to observing;
- Free on line access to digital teaching resources, developed by the researcher teachers of the TICE unit of the Training and Teaching section of the Paris Observatory;
- The virtual campus "Astronomie Sur Mesure" (Astronomy tailored for you), is an on-line place to learn astronomy and astrophysics. At present, it is composed of 4 distance teaching modules, a set of software applications for numerical modeling, and a collection of exercises to learn mathematics.
