Agenda astronomique 2017

350 years : a mere eye-blink on the scale of human history, but, for astronomy, a long and fruitful period of time. In 2017 we will celebrate the founding of the Paris Observatory and its historic building. Its walls were raised in 1667, designed and built in accordance with the laws by which is governed astronomy and which are in no way arbitrary. Its venerable masonary has has witnessed the passage of eminent personalities, whose work and discoveries have survived diverse political events, the Revolution and several world wars, and created French astronomy.
It is still a centre for advanced research, and is involved in numerous international projects : step by step, the astronomers move forward and continuously push back the limits of our understanding of the sky and of space.
This diary will help you to understand the intimate relation between the history of French astronomy and this emblematic building, and you will also progress step by step every day to penetrate its secrets.

This diary has all the information you will need to know for the main astronomical events through the year : the times of sunrise and sunset, idem for the Moon and planets, solar and lunar eclipses, the motions of the planets visible to the naked eye as they pass through the constelloations, the phases of the Moon, the dates of the equinoxes and solstices, etc. Explanatory pages give extra information on specific subjects. And moreover the mobile sky map which can be removed and set up will enable you to find your way easily around the stars in the northern hemisphere.
