Eclipse Les Andes Pérou Arequipa 1955 -Rayrole Mouradian Servajean-. . Couleur, muet, 24’. Film de Roger Servajean (inv. n°50)

The mission of the Meudon Observatory (Solar section) to Peru in the village of Caniagas (at an altitude of 4000 m) on the rail line between Arequipa and Puno, to observe the 12th of November 1966 total solar eclipse. The participants, Jean Rayrole, Zadig Mouradian et Roger Servajean, filmed some of the key moments of the observing campaign : the flight from Lima to Arequipa, followed by a train journey to the station at Caniagas, unloading the equipment at the station, the observing camp, the instruments (equatorial, cœlostat and the telescope), le laboratory-wagon, the countryside and the lamas. They also filmed their return after the observations : the Lake Titicaca, Cuzco village (the churches, the market) and finally a few pictures of the archeological site of Machu-Picchu and the surrounding countryside.

Feature on the construction of the solar tower at the Observatoire de Meudon between 1964 and 1965 : from the foundations up to the installation of the spectrograph on the roof for the purpose of observing the Sun.

Roger Servajean filmed the mountains from the cable car going from the village of La Mongie to the Pic du Midi. Views of the Observatory and the surrounding areas : the Nansouty building, the television buildings, the Tourelle dome, the Baillaud dome, the 1 meter dome, the solar cœlostat solaire, and the cosmic ray laboratory.

Briançon Font-Romeu.. Couleur, muet, 10’. Film de Roger Servajean (inv. n°65)

Roger Servajean, an astronomer at the Observatoire de Paris, filmed the countryside from a helicopter during a flight from Briançon (Hautes-Alpes) to Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via en Cerdagne, in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. The site was selected for the construction of the large solar furnace of Odeillo, a laboratory in which the Sun is used to study high temperature phenomena and the behaviour of matter under extreme conditions.
