Instituted in 2023 by Antoine Petit, President and CEO of CNRS, this medal is intended to recognize and distinguish those who, through the quality of their managerial commitment, contribute to the influence and global leadership of CNRS. It is a mark of the institution’s recognition of the work accomplished by Guy Perrin in the service of research and society.
The award was presented to Guy Perrin by Antoine Petit and Éric Chareyre, Director Delegate for Senior Management, on March 10, 2025.
It joins a long list of prestigious awards and honours obtained throughout his career, in recognition of his research work and his responsibilities within the scientific community.
Throughout his career, Guy Perrin has always been heavily involved in coaching and teaching, alongside his involvement in astrophysics research, particularly in optical interferometry. He is one of the main architects of the huge success of the VLTI/Gravity instrument.
He has supervised the work of many young researchers who have gone on to successful careers in astronomy. Guy Perrin has also taken on major responsibilities in research administration in the service of the community, firstly for 6 years as Vice-Chairman of the Scientific Council of Paris Observatory, then as Deputy Scientific Director at CNRS/INSU in charge of the Astronomy-Astrophysics field for the last 5 years.
