Astronomy at Double Science festival

5 juin 2025

Researchers from the Paris Observatory will lead workshops at the Double Science festival on June 14 and 15, at a booth organized by PSL and shared with its constituent parts.

PSL University, partner of the event, will be present throughout the festival to share the research conducted in its laboratories. With the participation of researchers, students, and engineers from Chimie Paris-PSL, ESPCI-PSL, ENS-PSL, EPHE-PSL, Dauphine-PSL, the Collège de France, and of course the Paris-PSL Observatory.

Daniel Reese is an astronomer at LIRA, Observatoire de Paris-PSL. He will lead the workshop “The melody of the stars : How do stars oscillate ?”
He will explain asteroseismology, i.e., the study of star pulsations, which provides information about their internal structure, in very simple terms. The workshop will use sound transpositions of stellar oscillations interfaced with a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, a diagram that all stellar physicists are familiar with and prefer to call the HR diagram.

Ludovic Petitdemange is a CNRS researcher at LUX, Observatoire de Paris-PSL. He will lead the workshop “Touching space : a new sensory experience to discover the solar system.” Initially designed for the visually impaired, this workshop approaches the solar system through touch and manipulation, whereas the rest of the public only uses their eyesight. It’s a whole new way to discover the planets...

Join us on June 14 and 15 at Ground Control in Paris to discover the PSL University program :
