The Academy of Sciences awards many prizes and medal to honor scientists for their work, or young researchers in the early years of their careers. These prize cover all research domains, both fundamental and applied.

Bruno Sicardy is a professor at the Pierre et Marie Curie Univsersity and also professor at the Paris Observatory in the Laboratory for space studies and astrophysical insgtrumentation (Laboratoire d’études spatiales et d’instrumentation en astrophysique - LESIA).

The Academy of Sciences awarded the 2019 Paul Doisteau-Emile Blutet prize, for his discoveries of the existence of rings around solar system bodies (planets, asteroids) using occultations, a method which he developed and exploited for almost 40 years.

The world-wide observational network situated all over the Earth has also enabled one to determine the size and shape of certain asteroids.
