The total solar eclipse of July 11, 2010 was observed in Easter Island by Vincent Coudé du Foresto (LESIA) and Dominique Proust (GEPI). This eclipse was particularly awaited on the island since the previous one had taken place on March 30, 591 and the next one will occur on February 2, 2324. Probably up to now, no human had observed it on this island. In spite of fears of an unfavorable weather, the eclipse was followed in its entirety, the centrality lasting 4mn 46s around 20:11 (universal time), that is to say 14:11 local time. Nearly 3000 observers travelled to the island to admire this phenomenon as spectacular as rare.
