Thomas Widemann elected to the International Academy of Astronautics

In August 2023, Thomas Widemann, astrophysicist and historian of science at LESIA, Observatoire de Paris - PSL, was elected a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics.

Thomas Widemann has been elected a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics.

This distinction crowns the selection of the EnVision mission, for which Thomas Widemann is European co-leader. The EnVision mission has been selected as a medium-class mission by the European Space Agency (ESA) as part of its Cosmic Vision program, for launch to Venus in 2031.

The award also recognizes EnVision’s involvement in the worldwide coordination of the scientific teams of the 3 missions recently selected by NASA and ESA to explore Venus over the next decade :

  • DAVINCI.
The International Academy of Astronautics

Founded in 1960, this academy promotes the development of astronautics for peaceful purposes, recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in a related branch of science or technology, and provides a program through which members can contribute to international efforts to advance aerospace science.
