Thierry Célérier - Femmes & Sciences" award 2023

24 novembre 2023

A physicist at Observatoire de Paris - PSL, Marie-Noëlle Célérier is the founder of the Thierry Célérier - Femmes & Sciences prize, dedicated to encouraging young women with disabilities who are destined for the world of science. On November 24, 2023, she will award the third edition to Emilia Turc, a young polytechnician with an exemplary career path.

Since its creation in 2021 within the Femmes & Sciences association, on the initiative of Marie-Noëlle Célérier, physicist at the Observatoire de Paris-PSL, the "Thierry Célérier - Femmes & Sciences" prize has rewarded young women aged between 20 and 28, with disabilities, wishing to carry out an ambitious project in scientific studies or research, or in technological innovation. Over the past two years, the prize has already honored and supported three young women with exceptional career paths.

Awarded by Isabelle Vauglin, President of the Femmes & Sciences association, and by Marie-Noëlle Célérier, during the colloquium co-organized by the Femmes & Sciences association and the Société Française de Physique, held at the École Normale Supérieure - PSL, the prize for its third edition goes to Emilia Turc, an engineer from the École Polytechnique, currently in the first year of her thesis at the APHP Hôpital Lariboisière.

An inspiring young woman

After two years of preparatory classes at the Lycée Henri IV, Emilia Turc entered the École Polytechnique. At the same time, she took a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in mathematics applied to machine learning, and completed a research internship with a pharmaceutical company.

Her plan is to specialize in artificial intelligence applied to healthcare. Since the start of the 2023 academic year, she has been working on a PhD thesis entitled "Modeling brain responses in patients under general anesthesia", with the aim of helping to reduce post-operative complications in certain anesthetized patients.

While successfully completing her studies and starting work on her doctorate, Emilia Turc is also involved in humanitarian actions on behalf of hospitalized children and young people with disabilities.

The prize of 10,000 euros will enable her to motorize her wheelchair, make adaptations to her home, purchase non-reimbursed equipment and facilitate her commuting to and from work.

Our most sincere congratulations go to her.
