Social Security Registration

Registration with the students’ social security is mandatory for all students :

  • between 20 and 28 (born between 10/01/1992 and 09/30/1984)
  • above 28 if the student is signed up for a doctoral program

The registration takes place at the start of each academic year, and covers the period from October 1st to September 30th.

Required documents

  1. French nationals : ID card or passport.
  2. Citizen of countries having signed a convention with France : passport (ask the registrar’s office about specifics).
  3. Stateless persons governed by the provisions of the 1954 New York convention : provide a copy of your OFPRA card.

Social protection

After registration, your medical expenses will be refunded by one of these two centers :

  • center 601 run by LMDE, 7 rue Danton 75006 Paris
  • center 617 run by SMEREP, 54 Boulevard Saint-Michel 75006 Paris

At registration, you will be asked to chose between these two companies. Additionally, both companies can provide complementary plans in case you are interested in a more comprehensive social security plan. Subscription to such plans is however optional ; you will find free documentation at the registrar’s office.

Please be advised that subscription to separate insurance plans covering your civil liability as well as possible accidents susceptible to occur during the course of your internship is mandatory.
