Nicolas Biver and Denis Savoie awarded by the Academy of Sciences Arago medal

On November 21st, 2017, Nicolas Biver received the Arago medal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to astronomy. Denis Savoie received the Paul Doistau-Emile Blutet Award for all his work on sundials.

Created in 1887, the Arago medal is awarded every four years by the Academy of Sciences. It is awarded to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to astronomy.
The medal was handed over to Nicolas Biver, astrophysicist at the Paris Observatory’s Laboratory for Space Studies and Astrophysical Instrumentation (Laboratoire d’Etudes Spatiales et d’Instrumentation en Astrophysique - LESIA) during a special ceremony which took place under the dome of the Institut de France on November 21st, 2017.

The Academy of Sciences Paul Doistau-Émile Blutet prize is a biennial prize awarded since 1954 in mathematics, in astronomy and in the Earth sciences ; it is globally identified as for the "Science of the Universe".
This prize was awarded to Denis Savoie (Director of the Universcience’s science and education multimedia section, and member of the History of Astronomy team at the SYRTE). He is an eminent and world renowned,specialist in the theory, construction and history of sundials.
