To mark its commitment to this cause, the Observatory will be celebrating on its website and social networks all those who have participated and continue to participate in the progress of science and astronomy, research and technical advances.
We’re sharing portraits of some of our female astronomers. We show you inspiring and committed women, past and present, who are passionate about their profession.
Of course, the company’s commitment to professional equality between women and men doesn’t stop there.
Science needs women all year round ! For who can imagine sustainable science without equal access to and participation in science ? How can we deprive ourselves of such a pool of talent, new perspectives and creativity ?
In the main disciplines at the Paris Observatory - astrophysics and physics - there is considerable room for improvement : less than 22% of the Observatory’s researchers and teaching and research staff are women. We need to do better, and in this respect, one figure is encouraging, even if still insufficient : 31% of PhD students in our laboratories are women.
So I’d like to pass on this message to young women : we need you, we’ll support you and we’ll welcome you !
