Certain students may be eligible for a tuition fees waiver.

The Paris Observatory has also adopted as of February 2013 a specific policy regarding fourth-year doctoral students.

Legal exemptions

Tuition and social security registration fees can be waived for students on a State-funded scholarship - upon production of the scholarhip notification letter received for the current academic year.
Regugees and unemployed workers may also be exempted after examination of their request.

The Paris Observatory’s policy regarding fourth-year doctoral students

During its February 7th session, the Board defined four criteria of tuition fees exemption :

  1. The student must be allowed to register in his fourth year of doctoral studies. A formal authorization of the director of the doctoral school, delivered after consultation of the student’s dissertation advisor of the council of the doctoral school, is required.
  2. The student must pay the tuition fees - reimbursement will occur retroactively, after the realization of all 4 criteria of exemption can be proven.
  3. The dissertation defense must occur at the latest on December 31st of the registration year.
  4. The sum of all exempted students must remain inferior to 10% of total registered students at the Paris Observatory.

Following the request of an eligible student, and after verification of all criteria, tuition fees may be waived.
