Observatoire de Paris-PSL and its Doctoral School in a few words
The Observatoire de Paris - PSL is a unique research establishment, in terms of its history, reputation and diversity of research fields, as well as its ability to initiate innovative, multidisciplinary research.
While it employs around a quarter of France’s total workforce in astronomy and astrophysics, a significant proportion of its staff work in other disciplines. This diversity of profiles and research themes creates an ecosystem that is unique in France, enabling the development of excellence in both fundamental and applied research, in emblematic fields as well as at the crossroads of disciplines.
As part of the Université PSL, Observatoire de Paris-PSL also runs the Astrophysics graduate program, offering a complete cycle of postgraduate studies, from Master’s to Doctorate.
The École Doctorale “Astronomie et Astrophysique d’Ile-de-France” provides students with excellent training in and through research. This interdisciplinary training covers a broad spectrum of scientific and technological skills, and attracts around 50 PhD students from all over the world every year. Doctoral students prepare their theses in laboratories located in the Ile-de-France region or, in some cases, abroad.

High-performance computers and accessories for the optical benches used in the Space Engineering Master’s program, enabling cutting-edge training in the design and implementation of adaptive optics systems.
Educational visits to the Observatoire Radioastronomique de Nançay (Cher), one of the scientific departments of the Observatoire de Paris-PSL, and to the Observatoire de Haute-Provence for students in the Astrophysics Master’s and International Master’s programs. These stays are essential to provide students with practical training on professional instruments covering various fields of astronomy.
Furniture for the student lounge on the Meudon campus, creating a space for relaxation and exchange.
In 2025, we plan to renew the laptops we lend to students, which have reached the end of their life cycle, to facilitate their access to programming tools in computer science, digital methods and machine learning courses.
