The SF2days are a major event of the Society and enable :
- scientific meetings,
- talks of general interest,
- the presentation by young scientists of their work,
- the award of theyoung scietitst HP prize of the SF2A and of the EDP Science Thesis prize,
- discussions on the scientific poilicy of French astronomy.
- Numerous scientific workshops are organized in parallel.
They also constitute, via the organization of a public talk : "Le compte des mille et une exoplanètes" (1001 exoplanets) and of the school competition “Discover the Universe” a significant means of popularizing astrophysics.
The SF2A (Société Française d’Astronomie et d’Astrophysique - French Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics) is a society governed b y the 1901 law, and founded in 1978.
Its objective is to contributed to the development and popularization of astronomy in France, by enrolling the professionals of that discipline. It is interested in the relations between these professionals and the general public, as well as in the role of astronomy in society. This is done with the help of astronomers for the dissemination of scientific projects, the organization of workshops in this discipline, scientific information, and the special prize "science and society" which has been awarded twoce (Alain Riazuelo in 2012, Alexandre Astier in 2016). The SF2A organizes every year in a different town its highlight event : the SF2A days or « French Astrophysics Week » to which is also invited a foreign society. In 2017, its sister society, the Chilean Astronomical Society, was invited.
